We want to swim in natural water. Are there crocodiles or strong currents to worry about.

Swimming in natural rivers and lakes requires extreme caution. Many large rivers have incredibly strong, hidden undercurrents that are dangerous even for expert swimmers. Always ask locals before getting in the water.

The safest places for wild swimming are the clear, shallow rock pools at the bases of small waterfalls in the hill country, where the water is freezing cold and totally free of dangerous wildlife.

Crocodiles do inhabit many of the larger rivers and reservoirs, especially in the dry zones and national parks. Never swim in an unmarked lake unless a local guide explicitly tells you it is safe.
