Is it worth traveling all the way north to Jaffna?

We have 10 days total in Sri Lanka. Is spending 2 days taking the train up to Jaffna worth it, or should we stick to the classic south and hill country loop?

If you ever come back for a second trip, Jaffna is incredible! It feels completely different from the rest of the country—vibrant Hindu temples, unique mango varieties, and untouristed island villages.

With only 10 days, skipping Jaffna is recommended. The travel time alone takes an entire day each way. Stick to the Cultural Triangle, Kandy, and the south coast for a first-time shorter trip.
