I am heading to Jaffna and everyone says to eat the crab curry. I love flavor but my stomach cannot handle extreme chili heat. Will I survive?

Authentic Jaffna crab curry is fiercely, unapologetically hot. It uses heavily roasted dark curry powder and lots of black pepper and chili. If you have a sensitive stomach, it might ruin your next day. Ask the restaurant if they can make a mild "tourist" batch, but it won't be the real deal.

Eat it with lots of plain white rice and Pittu to dilute the spice. And drink a glass of fresh cow's milk or King Coconut water immediately afterward to soothe your stomach lining.
