No you absolutely must not visit the Negombo Fish Market on a Sunday. Because Negombo has a massive deeply devout Catholic population the vast majority of local fishermen strictly observe Sunday as a day of rest and attend church. The massive bustling market you see in photographs will be completely deserted silent and empty. You must plan your visit for any other day of the week arriving strictly before 6:30 AM to witness the incredible chaotic auction.
