Can we drink from the tap or do we absolutely need to buy bottled water everywhere.

No, tap water is not safe to drink anywhere in Sri Lanka, even in five star luxury hotels. The local water treatment is not designed for direct consumption, so always drink bottled or heavily filtered water.

You can use tap water to brush your teeth safely, but spit cautiously. Every reputable hotel provides complementary sealed glass or plastic water bottles in the room daily for drinking.
