The stairs look very narrow in photos. Is it safe to climb to the top for the view.

Climbing the Dawson Tower is completely safe, but it is definitely not for anyone who suffers from severe claustrophobia. The wooden spiral staircase inside the monument is incredibly narrow and steep. However, the structure itself is very sound and meticulously maintained.

Take your time climbing up. There are small landings where you can catch your breath. Once you reach the top, the breezy, panoramic view looking straight down the Kadugannawa pass and over the entire valley is absolutely spectacular and worth the short, sweaty climb.
