I heard massive landslides blocked the highway. Is the drive back to normal speed now.

Yes, the main A1 highway connecting Colombo to Kandy is completely fully repaired and open to all traffic. The massive landslide debris that blocked the Kadugannawa pass during the December cyclone was cleared very quickly by the military and road authorities.

It is completely safe to hire a private driver or take the intercity bus up the mountain now, and the surrounding scenery is incredibly lush and green after the heavy rains.

The drive is entirely back to normal speed. You will notice some areas where fresh concrete retaining walls have been built to secure the slopes, but there are no major delays or road closures remaining.
