The palmyra products are unique to the north the fruit pulp the jaggery and the sweets made from the palmyra palm are something you will not find in the south so try the palmyra treats it is a taste of the northern landscape and culture alongside the famous crab

If you try one thing make it the crab curry but eat it with your hands and rice the way it is meant to be the rich fiery gravy with the sweet crab meat is the soul of Jaffna and going at it properly by hand is half the joy ask for a bib and dive in

Be ready for the heat the northern food really is spicier than the south I love chilli and even I found the Jaffna crab curry seriously fiery in the best way if you are chilli shy ask for it milder but the heat is part of what makes the cuisine so distinctive and exciting
