Kataragama parking scams, where is it safe to park.
3 Answers from travellers
The Kataragama parking scam is notorious. Groups of aggressive men will wave at your car, blow whistles, and try to force you to turn into their small, private dirt lots located far from the temple, charging exorbitant fees.
Absolutely ignore them and keep driving straight towards the main temple complex. There is a massive, official municipal parking lot located directly near the main entrance gates that is very cheap and heavily monitored by security.
If the men try to block the road or yell that the main lot is full, do not believe them. Keep your windows rolled up and confidently drive past them until you see the official temple police directing traffic.
