Knuckles range day hike from Kandy homestay

We are staying at a homestay in Kandy. Is it realistic to do a day hike to the Knuckles Mountain Range and be back by dinner.

It is possible, but it will be a very long day. The drive from Kandy to the Knuckles trailhead (like Bambarella or Hunnasgiriya) takes about 2 to 2.5 hours each way due to winding mountain roads. You would need to leave your homestay by 5:30 AM to have a proper 5-hour hike and make it back before dark.

The Knuckles get extremely misty by 2 PM. If you start late, you will hike in pure white fog and see nothing.

Most Kandy homestays will pack you a breakfast if you tell them you are doing an early Knuckles trip.
