We want to do the Pottuvil lagoon eco safari to see crocodiles. A guy on the beach in Arugam Bay offered to book it for 8000 LKR per person. Is that the real price.

That is a massive rip-off. The beach touts add a 300% markup just for making a phone call. The Pottuvil Lagoon tour is run by a local fisheries cooperative. Just take a tuk-tuk directly to the lagoon bridge in Pottuvil and book with the boatmen there. The official price is around 2500 to 3000 LKR per boat (not per person).

Do not let the touts guilt you into thinking they are the only ones who can guarantee a boat. There are always boats waiting.

Also, make sure you go around 4:30 PM. That is when the elephants come to the water to drink.

Bring mosquito repellent. The lagoon bugs are vicious at dusk.

Wow, thank you. We will just get a tuktuk and go there ourselves.
