I am an advanced surfer. What are the unwritten rules for surfing Main Point in Arugam Bay without getting into fights with the local crew.

Main Point is highly localized and very competitive during peak season. The rules are: 1. Do not paddle straight to the deepest peak on your first day. 2. Give the first few set waves to the recognized local guys. 3. NEVER drop in or snake anyone. 4. Be friendly, say hello, and show respect. If they see you can actually surf well and respect the lineup, they will start sharing waves with you.

If it gets too aggressive, just take a tuk-tuk down to Peanut Farm. Way mellower crowd.

Honestly, the tourist beginners getting in the way of the advanced surfers cause more fights than the locals do.

Good advice. I will sit on the shoulder for the first few sessions to feel out the vibe.

If you accidentally drop in, kick out immediately and apologize loudly. They appreciate humility.
