I am an intermediate surfer visiting Arugam Bay. I hear Main Point is heavily localized. What are the rules to avoid getting yelled at.

Main Point is dominated by a tight crew of local surfers. The rules: 1. Do not paddle straight to the deepest peak on your first day. 2. Give away a few sets to the locals. 3. NEVER drop in or snake anyone. 4. Smile and say "Machan" (brother). Once they see you are respectful, they will call you into waves. If you drop in, you will be sent to the beach.

Yes, hire a tuktuk and go to Peanut Farm. It has a great inside sandy section for intermediates.

Tourist beginners pushing foam boards cause more fights there than the locals do.

Are there other beaches nearby that are less crowded.

Whisky point is also super fun for longboarding and less aggressive.

If you are just intermediate, surf Baby Point (the inside section) instead. It sweeps over sand and is much friendlier.
