The Bambarabotuwa trail is open but extremely muddy due to the afternoon April showers. It is an insane downhill ride that drops you right near the traditional mining pits. You absolutely must hire a local guide because the trail washes out easily and the mine shafts can be hidden.

After a ride like that, stop by the local herbal shops in Ratnapura town. They sell a fantastic indigenous balm that works miracles on bruised shins and calves.

Did this last year! It is exhausting but totally worth it. The river at the bottom of the trail is perfect for washing off the mud before checking out the rough gems.
