Negombo fish market and lagoon worth a dawn visit on day 2

Lellama fish market at dawn is one of Sri Lankas great photo and culture experiences, not a tourist trap, this is the real working market. Outrigger fishing boats (oruwas) come in around 5 to 6am, the auction starts shortly after, then the women carry baskets of fish to the drying yards. Best between roughly 5:30 and 7am. Wear shoes you can hose off, expect strong fish smells, and ASK before close-up photos (most are happy, some are not). The Negombo lagoon mangrove boat ride at sunrise is the other gentle highlight, water birds, fishermen casting nets, calm before the heat. Combine market then breakfast then lagoon boat for a perfect day 2 jetlag-friendly morning.
Tip your tuk-tuk driver to wait while you shoot the market, otherwise getting back can be a hassle so early. Or walk if your hotel is on the beach strip.
After the market, eat at a local breakfast place: kiribath (milk rice) with seeni sambol, or string hoppers and dhal. Best post-market meal you can have.
Setting an alarm for 4:45am day 2. Obrigado, sounds perfect for the camera.
