No hotel in Kandy and Saturday is the last Kumbal - do we just van up in the morning

We wasted tonight in Colombo refreshing. 5th Kumbal is 6.28 tomorrow. Booking.com is still ugly. Is a same-day van + "walk in with a backpack" actually how people do the last Kumbal, or will we be sleeping in the car park they designated for heavy vehicles.

Last Kumbal is still a real night and still thinner than Randoli. Day-of rooms exist in Ampitiya, Peradeniya, Katugastota, Kengalla - not on the lake. Van from Colombo 8-9am, dump bags, walk in before 4. Do not plan to drive to the Maligawa at 5. Police parks (KMC, railway, Sahas Uyana, etc.) are for cars, not camping.

We walked into a Peradeniya guesthouse Thursday with cash. Lake hotels laughed.

If you only get one night, I would still tell a tired family to wait for Sunday Randoli and book that bed tonight, even if it is 8 km out.
