Are there any cool colonial architectural hidden gems left inside the Pettah market maze that haven’t been knocked down.

Yes! You must visit the Dutch Period Museum on Prince Street. It is a beautifully restored 17th-century Dutch governors mansion right in the middle of the chaotic market. Also, check out the Wolvendaal Church at the edge of Pettah; it is one of the oldest Protestant churches in Asia and has incredible carved wooden pews.

The Red Mosque (Jami Ul-Alfar) is not Dutch, but it is visually stunning and right in the center of Pettah.

The old Town Hall at the end of Main Street is also a cool colonial building, though it is looking a bit run down now.
