We were charged double the menu price for a fish. How do we avoid this trap.

The golden rule of eating fresh seafood at the beach shacks in Mirissa or Unawatuna is to explicitly negotiate and confirm the total, final price of the fish based on its weight before they even put it on the grill. Never agree to a vague per 100g price without seeing them weigh the whole fish on the scale first. Confirming the total price upfront completely eliminates the risk of a massive surprise bill at the end of your meal.
