I am doing a waterfall photography tour. Are there "fake guides" at the major waterfalls demanding money to show you the best photo spots.

Yes, this is a common annoyance at places like Bambarakanda or Diyaluma. Local teenagers will jump on your tuk-tuk or start walking in front of you, claiming they are taking you to a "secret photo spot." Then they demand 3000 rupees. The paths are obvious and you do not need them. Firmly say "No guide" immediately. Also, never cross police barrier tape for a photo; the fine is real.

We had a guy follow us all the way up Diyaluma even after we said no. We just ignored him and did not pay.

Also, flying drones near the heavily touristed waterfalls like Ravana will get you a hefty fine from the cops.
