Guesthouse host so the current on the ground reality with the honest caveat that the power situation can change so check recent reports near your trip The current picture for the most part electricity is reasonably reliable day to day now the severe scheduled load shedding of the worst crisis period has eased a lot you should NOT expect your whole trip to be defined by blackouts that said occasional power cuts still happen (a fault a storm related outage the odd short scheduled cut at peak demand) so it is wise to be prepared without being anxious How it affects things when a cut happens WIFI goes down (the router needs power) unless there is a generator or battery backup phone DATA on your eSIM still works (the towers have backup) so you stay connected via mobile data WATER can be affected where pumps or pressure rely on electricity (a short cut is usually fine larger places have tanks) CHARGING just charge devices whenever power is on Hotels and generators the bigger and mid range HOTELS and many established guesthouses have GENERATORS or battery backup that kick in so the better the accommodation the less you notice cuts if remote work and power matter ASK when booking does the property have a generator or backup power and good backup mobile data prioritise places that do How to prepare a few simple things a POWER BANK (charge it when power is on so you are covered for phone and small devices) a head torch or your phone torch for an evening cut keep devices topped up rely on your eSIM mobile data for connectivity during a wifi outage and pick accommodation with generator backup for the work days For remote work the combo that works a property with generator or battery backup PLUS a strong mobile data eSIM as your fallback means a power cut rarely stops you working schedule important calls with that backup in mind so do not worry power is mostly reliable now occasional cuts happen carry a power bank and torch lean on your eSIM data when wifi drops and book generator backed places for the work days and check recent local reports before you travel as the situation can shift

A head torch is genuinely useful not just for cuts but for unlit paths and steps at night anyway so pack one regardless it doubles as your power cut backup and your evening walking light

The ask about generator backup when booking tip is the key one for workers the difference between a place with backup and without is total during a cut I always message the property to confirm before booking a work base

For remote work specifically a small travel router with a battery or just hotspotting from your phone on a cut keeps you online seamlessly when the wifi drops I tell working guests to test their phone hotspot on arrival so they are ready if the power blips during a call

Mostly reliable now occasional cuts carry a power bank and torch lean on the eSIM data when wifi drops and book generator backed places for work days this is exactly the current reality I needed the data still works on a cut point reassures me thank you

In a month here I had only a couple of short cuts and barely noticed them the power bank for the phone covered it and the guesthouse generator handled the rest it is nothing like the crisis era stories do not let it put you off
