Safety during wildlife and elephant adventure safaris
6 Answers from travellers
Yes, it is very safe if you follow the rules. The wildlife is habituated to the jeeps and mostly ignores them. Leopards will not jump into a vehicle. The only danger is from lone bull elephants in musth (aggressive mating phase). However, all registered jeep drivers are highly experienced in reading elephant body language and will quickly throw the jeep in reverse if a bull gets agitated. Keep your arms inside the vehicle.
Do not stand up or make sudden loud noises when the animals are close.
It is the monkeys you have to worry about! They will jump in and steal your snacks.
They just walk right past it. To a leopard, the jeep is just a big, smelly metal box.
If an elephant flaps its ears wide and kicks dirt, it is a warning sign. Trust your driver.
