We want to take a local bus from Kandy up to Hatton. The roads look terrifyingly winding and narrow. Are the bus drivers safe on these mountain passes.

Sri Lankan hill country bus drivers are incredibly skilled, but the ride is definitely not for the faint of heart. They drive fast, use the horn constantly to blindly take blind corners, and pass trucks with inches to spare. It is statistically safe, but it feels like a rollercoaster. If you get motion sickness easily, take the train instead. It is much slower and smoother.

I threw up out the window on that exact route. Take motion sickness pills an hour before you board.

Try to sit near the front. Staring at the horizon helps, and the back of the bus swings wildly on the corners.

We will just book the train. I cannot handle motion sickness.
