Saturday 6.28 - van out of Kandy at 4 or stay in town for the last Kumbal
We are not locking a 4pm kerb pickup so we can sit the 5th. We are asking the other thing. Van can take us out of town at 16:00 toward Colombo or the hills so we are not in Kandy when 6.28 starts. Last Kumbal is the last Kumbal. Stay in town and stand it, or be on the A1 at dusk.

5th Kumbal Saturday 6:28 PM is still on the official table. Leaving town at 16:00 means you miss it. That is a choice, not a cancellation. If you stay, you are in town for a dusk start (other thread) and Saturday 2-5pm showers first. If you leave, leave before the loop diversions rebuild mid-afternoon - Gopallawa / Old Peradeniya were the published corridors, not a promise they stay empty at 17:00.
Next official start after tonight is Saturday 6:28, then Sunday Randoli 6:44. There is no "they will delay it to 7 because we left." No Saturday cancellation on Ada / Maligawa / kandyesalaperahera.com at 10:25.
We left a Kumbal year at 3pm and hit the first cones on the way out. If you are leaving, leave with a buffer, not at 16:00 on the nose.
Scam Watch: colombo
Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
