Yes. Most tourists hike from Poonagala straight down to the main cliff edge. Instead, when you reach the first river crossing, hike UPSTREAM about 20 minutes into the jungle. There is a secondary set of falls and deep, cold rock pools that are almost always completely empty. A local guide can show you the trail for 1500 LKR.

Be aware of leeches if you hike upstream into the thick brush.
