Naturalist so the after dark picture The slender loris YES this is a real and special experience the slender loris (and the related grey loris) is a tiny slow moving wide eyed nocturnal primate and there ARE places that run guided night walks to see them notably some community and conservation projects (there is a well known loris conservation effort and night walk in the hill country wet zone areas and certain reserves and even some tea estate and forest edge sites) a good guide knows the territories and finds them moving through the branches at night it is magical seeing those huge eyes in the torchlight Ethical do it RIGHT this matters with nocturnal animals go with a RESPONSIBLE guide or conservation project that uses minimal low red light no harsh white spotlighting in the eyes keeps distance does not bait or disturb and limits group size the ethical operators protect the animals the irresponsible spotlighting stresses them so choose a conservation linked or reputable naturalist led walk not a careless one Other nocturnal wildlife lots a night walk reveals a hidden world civets (the palm civet) the fishing cat (rare and special) owls and nightjars a chorus of frogs (wonderful diversity especially in the wet zone after rain) geckos and the giant geckos snakes (from a safe distance) sleeping birds chameleons insects and spiders the wet zone rainforests (Sinharaja and the wet hill forests) are extraordinary at night for frogs and endemic creatures Night safari culture yes there is a growing responsible night nature walk scene especially around the rainforests and the conservation projects (note night driving in national parks is restricted so it is guided walks and estate or buffer zone walks rather than night jeep safaris) so the answer yes you can see the slender loris on a guided night walk choose an ethical conservation minded guide with minimal red light and enjoy the civets frogs owls and the whole hidden nocturnal world the wet zone forests are the after dark treasure

The wet zone rainforest after rain for the frogs is a highlight in its own right the night chorus and the sheer diversity of endemic frogs is astonishing pair the loris walk with a rainforest night and the wet season is actually prime frog time
