Solo female traveler in Sri Lanka - any areas I should be extra careful?
Planning to travel solo for 3 weeks. I've heard mixed things about safety. Which areas require extra caution and what are the real risks?

Sri Lanka is generally very safe for solo women, especially in the south and hill country. The main issues are occasional harassment in crowded tourist areas (especially Colombo Pettah and some beach towns at night) and opportunistic theft. Dress modestly outside beach areas, use PickMe instead of random tuk-tuks at night, and trust your instincts. The east coast (Arugam Bay, Trinco) is more conservative - cover shoulders and knees when not at the beach.
Most problems happen when women are alone at night in isolated areas or accept rides from strangers. Stick to well-reviewed guesthouses and use hotel-arranged drivers for long transfers.
Reassuring. Planning to use lots of women-only spaces and well-reviewed places. Thank you.
I traveled solo for 6 weeks. Never had any serious issues. Locals are incredibly helpful, especially other women. Just be sensible like anywhere else.
