If we get pulled over, what documents do they usually ask for.

If the Sri Lankan traffic police wave you over while driving a rental tuk tuk, do not panic. It is a completely standard procedure. Pull over safely, turn off the engine, smile, and wait for the officer to approach.

If your paperwork is perfectly in order, they will quickly review it, perhaps ask where you are from out of friendly curiosity, and wave you on your way. Always remain highly polite and respectful.

They will almost always ask to see your driver license. You must hand them your home country license, your International Driving Permit, and the separate, official endorsement paper issued by the Automobile Association in Colombo. Ensure you also hand them the vehicle insurance documents provided by your rental agency.
