Tea factory tours with children - are they suitable and interesting?
We have a 7-year-old who is curious about everything. Are tea factory tours engaging for kids or too boring/technical?

Some factories are better than others for kids. The process (withering, rolling, drying) can be interesting if the guide makes it engaging, but many tours are quite dry and adult-focused. Look for smaller factories or ones that mention being family-friendly. The Pedro Estate area or some around Nuwara Eliya can be okay. Combine with a short nature walk or tea tasting (kids can try the flavors). If your child likes seeing how things are made, they'll probably enjoy parts of it.
Many kids get bored after 20-30 minutes. Do a short tour and then let them run around outside or visit a tea pluckers' village if possible. The scenery around the estates is often more interesting for children than the factory itself.
