Obstetrician so the sensible not the scary picture and the second trimester is genuinely the best window to travel so your timing is good The real considerations in order Dengue and mosquito risk the most important one dengue is the genuine pregnancy concern (and the region historically has had other mosquito borne risks) so mosquito protection is NON negotiable picaridin repellent day and night (the dengue mosquito bites daytime per the dengue threads) cover up air conditioned or screened rooms be diligent this is the single biggest thing Food and water caution be a bit stricter than usual hot freshly cooked food bottled or filtered water avoid the higher risk items a stomach infection is more miserable and a little riskier pregnant the rice and curry and freshly cooked food is fine just be selective Heat real you tire and dehydrate faster pregnant pace gently hydrate constantly seek shade and AC in the midday avoid the strenuous hot climbs (Sigiriya the long hill hikes) Long bumpy drives the genuine comfort issue the slow winding roads are tiring break drives keep them short choose a comfortable car with a good driver (the car and driver threads) and avoid the roughest tracks Activities to skip the bouncing safari jeep on rough tracks is jarring (a gentler park or a boat safari is kinder) diving is OUT in pregnancy snorkelling gently is usually fine the white water and canyoning and the strenuous treks skip choose the gentle version of everything Healthcare reassurance GOOD the private hospitals in Colombo Kandy and Galle have competent obstetric care and the care is affordable as the healthcare threads cover carry your maternity notes know the nearest good private hospital to each base and your travel insurance MUST cover pregnancy and the gestation check the policy The sensible plan second trimester is ideal protect ferociously against mosquitoes be stricter on food and water pace for the heat keep drives short and comfortable skip the jarring and the diving choose gentle versions know your hospitals and insure properly do that and a calm babymoon here is lovely and sensible
Family planner adding base in fewer places for longer when pregnant the constant repacking and driving is the real fatigue pick three comfortable bases with pools and AC and day trip gently from each
Travelled here in the second trimester before this little one and the calm beach and gentle culture version was perfect we skipped the jeep safari for a boat one and it was lovely the gentle choices add up
One addition carry your prescribed prenatal supplements and any medication from home with the prescription as the medicine threads note and confirm the dengue picture for your specific dates with a travel clinic before flying conditions shift seasonally
Protect ferociously against mosquitoes stricter food and water gentle versions of everything short comfortable drives and insure for pregnancy this is the do it safely answer I wanted not talked out of it thank you
