We are driving a rental tuk-tuk to the Kataragama temple for the evening pooja. What do we do if we break down on the Buttala road with wild elephants around.

Do not get out of the vehicle! The Buttala-Kataragama road is highly active with elephants at dusk. Turn your hazard lights on, stay inside the tuk-tuk, and flag down a passing CTB bus or a large truck. They will usually stop and help tow you or let you board. Never try to push the tuk-tuk in the dark.

Before you drive that road, check your spark plug and clutch cable. Those are the two most common reasons rentals stall out in the jungle.

I drove that road last month. We passed three massive bulls eating right on the shoulder. Definitely not a place you want your engine to die.
