We are hiking to the upper pools of Diyaluma Falls. Can we buy authentic rice and curry in Koslanda to bring up for a picnic, and is it safe to swim.

Yes! Grab a "buth packet" (rice and curry wrapped in a banana leaf) from any small kade in Koslanda or Punagala before you hike up. The banana leaf makes it easy to pack out your trash. Swimming in the upper rock pools is amazing, but stay strictly away from the main 220-meter drop-off. The currents can be deceptive.

Do not leave your food unattended! The monkeys up there are vicious and will steal your lunch instantly.

Please bring a garbage bag. Locals complain that tourists leave plastic bottles and food wrappers near the pristine upper pools.

The hike from the top road takes about 45 minutes. Eating a spicy curry by those infinity pools is the best experience in Sri Lanka.
