I want to see Blue Whales in August. Should I book a tour in Mirissa (South) or Trincomalee (East)?

In August, you must go to Trincomalee. The South Coast (Mirissa) is in the middle of the monsoon in August; the seas are incredibly rough and dangerous, and whales migrate away. Trincomalee has calm seas and peak sightings in August.

Trincomalee! I went last August and saw a mother and calf. Make sure to choose a smaller, ethical operator that doesn’t crowd the whales. The big boats chase them and it’s awful to watch.
