What are the orange coconuts being sold everywhere?

I see piles of bright orange coconuts on the side of the road. Are they different from the green ones we get back home?

That is the King Coconut, native to Sri Lanka! Locals call it "Thambili". It is cultivated specifically for drinking, not for coconut milk. The water is sweeter, packed with electrolytes, and perfect for hydration. Ask the vendor to split it open when you finish drinking so you can eat the soft jelly inside.

It’s the best hangover cure on earth. Buy them from the roadside vendors, it usually costs less than 50 cents. Tell them "no plastic straw" if you want to be eco-friendly and drink straight from the shell!
