I see it on every menu in Ella and the hill country. Is it very sour or sweet and is it made from a specific local fruit.

Woodapple or Limonia acidissima has a very unique, pungent aroma and a sour, funky taste. When made into a juice, it is mixed with sugar and often coconut milk to balance the acidity. It is an acquired taste for many foreigners but very refreshing and great for digestion. The fruit has a hard, wood like shell that must be cracked open to reach the brown pulp.
