The nightlife in Colombo gets a very late start compared to Western countries. Major clubs like Rhythm and Blues or the high end hotel lounges rarely get busy before midnight. On Friday and Saturday nights the government allows licensed clubs to remain open very late and the massive parties frequently pump music until 4:00 AM or 5:00 AM. However you must be aware that on the evening immediately preceding a Poya full moon day the police rigorously enforce a total alcohol ban and every single club will shut down completely by midnight.

Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
