What time do they actually stop letting people up Lion Rock - we could only go after 3

We got stuck in Kandy traffic and only reached Sigiriya around 3.30. Google said open till 6.30. Friend said they stop tickets at 5 and the frescoes earlier. Will they let you start the climb at 3.45 or is that a wasted drive. Asking for the next person who tries this.

Ticket counter is the limiter, not the sunset. If you are at the museum / foreigner counter by 4:30 you can still go up; they will hurry you. Fresco pocket is often closed to new entries before the rest of the rock - around 5:45 is what the 2026 pages say. A 3:30 arrival in town is tight once you park, buy, and walk the gardens. Aim to be at the counter by 3:15 or just do Pidurangala + gardens and come back at 6:30am.

We bought at 4:10, made the summit, skipped frescoes because the attendant was already waving people down. Fine if you only want the view. Not fine if you wanted the paintings.
