I am planning my visit for the Vesak Poya. Which cities have the most impressive light displays and charity food stalls.

Colombo and Kandy are the top places for Vesak. In Colombo, look for the massive thoranas near Gangarama Temple and the Galle Face Green. You will also see dansalas or charity stalls offering free meals to everyone as an act of merit. This year, Vesak falls on May 1, so the city will be fully illuminated with handmade paper lanterns and colorful neon displays representing the life of the Buddha.
