Where can I see the best Vesak lanterns and thoranas in May?

Colombo and Kandy are the top places for Vesak. In Colombo, look for the massive thoranas near Gangarama Temple and the Galle Face Green. You will also see dansalas or charity stalls offering free meals to everyone as an act of merit. This year, Vesak falls on May 1, so the city will be fully illuminated with handmade paper lanterns and colorful neon displays representing the life of the Buddha.
