Where to buy a moonstone wedding ring honestly in Sri Lanka

Meetiyagoda IS the real moonstone source: most of Sri Lankas blue-flash moonstone comes from the mines in this village. You can visit a working mine (small fee, see the shaft and lapidary workshop), then buy directly. To buy honestly: (1) Look at the stone under a moving light, REAL blue moonstone shows the "adularescence" (a moving blue sheen from inside, like trapped moonlight) that shifts as you tilt the stone; cheap synthetics or white feldspar lack this living glow. (2) Real Sri Lankan moonstone is rarely perfectly clear; some inclusions are normal. (3) Insist on an NGJA-registered seller or a Colombo jeweller with a certificate for higher-value stones. Indicative 2026 prices: a small set ring (~1-2 ct moonstone in silver) 30 to 80 USD; a higher-quality stone in gold rises fast. A wedding-ring moonstone with strong blue flash in a proper gold setting will run a few hundred dollars and up.
Tip: visit two or three shops in Meetiyagoda to compare flash and prices before buying. A genuine seller will encourage you to look around; a pushy one is the one to walk away from.
Doing the Meetiyagoda mine visit, shopping a few NGJA-registered shops, asking for the written invoice. Thank you so much, this matters.
Get a written invoice with the gold purity (e.g. 18K), stone weight in carats, and shop registration. Useful if you ever insure or value the ring later.
