Which Sri Lanka morning market is actually worth a 5am wake besides Negombo Lellama

Beyond Lellama, my top three dawn-market picks. (1) MANNING MARKET in Pettah, Colombo - wholesale fruit and vegetables, peak chaos 4-7am, lorries unloading from across the island, bargaining in three languages, photogenic stack of pineapples and durian. Wear closed shoes (wet floors). (2) KANDY CENTRAL MARKET on Castle Hill - smaller and gentler than Pettah, opens around 6am, sells everything from hill-country vegetables to flowers to spices; combine with breakfast at a kade nearby and a stop at the Temple of the Tooth before crowds. (3) THIRUNELVELI MARKET in Jaffna - the northern alternative, palmyra products, dried fish, Tamil produce; very local, very welcoming. PASS on the "tourist morning markets" some hotels organize - those are commission-driven. For VILLAGE markets, ask your guesthouse host which day the local pola (weekly market) is - those are the authentic ones, full of cattle, vegetables, and gossip. Bring small notes and ask before photographing vendors.
Manning Market is a real working wholesale market, not a tourist site, so behave accordingly: dont block aisles for photos, no flash near eyes, and tip a vendor if you spend more than 5 minutes photographing their stall.
Jaffna market is wonderful and felt completely off the tourist track. I bought palmyra jaggery from a woman who insisted on giving me a free piece to try. Lovely moment.
