Are flying foxes visible in Peradeniya gardens during the day?
3 Answers from travellers
Yes, you can easily spot thousands of giant flying foxes in the Peradeniya botanical gardens right in the middle of the day. They do not hide in caves.
If you walk towards the suspension bridge and look up at the massive pine trees, you will see huge colonies of them hanging upside down, loudly chattering and occasionally flying between branches.
They are completely harmless to tourists below, but they make for an incredibly fascinating, slightly eerie photography subject given their massive wingspans.

TukTuk or tour drivers take you to "gem museums" or "government-certified" gem shops. They receive huge commissions (up to 40%) on anything you buy. Prices are inflated 3-10x the actual value.
Men approach tourists near Temple of the Tooth offering to be guides. After the tour, they demand large "donations" or guide fees (5000-10000 LKR).
