I want to spend a few days hiking around the river and mountains. Are there mapped routes with camping spots.

Belihuloya is excellent for multi-day treks. The most popular route is hiking from Belihuloya up to the Horton Plains border via the Devil Staircase. There are several eco-lodges and designated camping grounds along the Hirikatu Oya river. Always check the weather in April, as sudden river swells are common during afternoon rains.
