I saw photos of donkeys walking on the beach. Are they friendly or aggressive.

Yes the Kalpitiya peninsula is famous for its massive roaming population of feral donkeys. They are descendants of animals brought over by Arab traders centuries ago and now wander freely through the villages and beaches.

While they are not aggressive you should not try to pet them or feed them by hand. Just enjoy photographing them as a highly unique quirky feature of the local landscape.

They are completely docile and generally totally ignore tourists. They spend their days peacefully grazing on whatever scrub grass they can find near the roads.
