I heard there are monkeys everywhere. Are they aggressive towards tourists walking by.

Yes, there are many wild macaque monkeys roaming freely around Kandy, especially near the lake and the Udawatta Kele Sanctuary behind the temple.

They are generally not aggressive unless you are carrying visible food or plastic bags that look like they contain snacks. Keep your belongings zipped up and do not try to feed them.
