Yes, there are many wild macaque monkeys roaming freely around Kandy, especially near the lake and the Udawatta Kele Sanctuary.

Never try to feed or touch the monkeys. If they approach you looking for food, just walk away calmly and they will leave you alone.

They are generally not aggressive unless you are carrying visible food or plastic bags that look like they contain snacks. Keep your belongings zipped up.
