I want to see traditional Kandyan dancing, but I want to avoid the overly commercialized tourist traps. Are there any authentic cultural centers in Kandy that perform this?

The Kandyan Art Association & Cultural Centre near the lake is the most established. Yes, the audience is mostly tourists, but the dancers and drummers are highly trained professionals preserving a genuine art form. It is not a "trap," it is cultural preservation.

That is reassuring. I will book a ticket for the Cultural Centre near the lake. Thank you.

The fire walking at the end of the show at the Cultural Centre was amazing. Get there 30 minutes early to get a seat near the front!

I also recommend the Red Cross Society Hall. It is slightly smaller than the Art Association but feels a bit more intimate. All the shows happen daily around 5:00 PM.
