There are several local wine stores where you can buy beer but public drinking or loud bars are not part of the local culture. Most tourists simply buy a few Lions and drink them quietly at their guesthouse.

If you want a highly authentic slightly gritty local experience you can visit a local tavern usually located near the bus stands. They are very male dominated and noisy but completely safe if you just want a quick cheap local beer.
