I am doing a whale watching tour in Mirissa with an ethical company that stays 100 meters away What lens do I need for good shots

Blue whales are absolutely massive, so even at 100 meters, a 70-200mm lens will give you decent environmental shots. However, if you want detailed shots of the dorsal fin or tail flukes when they dive, you will want a 100-400mm lens. Do not bother bringing a tripod; the boat rocks too much. Use a fast shutter speed (1/1000s or higher).

Do not bring a drone. Drones are strictly illegal to fly over marine wildlife in Sri Lanka.

Make sure your camera has weather sealing. The salt spray on the front deck will destroy electronics.
