SK Town beach is a phenomenal hidden gem just a few kilometers from Matara. It has beautiful black volcanic sand and incredibly consistent uncrowded waves perfect for surfing or just relaxing.

Polhena beach is very famous locally but often ignored by international tourists. It is protected by a massive coral reef making the water perfectly calm and shallow ideal for a peaceful swim.

If you want total seclusion hire a tuk tuk to Nilwella beach. It is a stunning deeply curved bay surrounded by lush jungle where you will likely be the only foreigner on the sand.
