To get a stunning, wide photograph of the Yapahuwa rock fortress, you do not need to climb a hill. Simply walk down the main dirt path leading towards the site from the ticket office. The view of the massive rock rising abruptly from the flat plains is perfectly framed there.

Additionally, once you climb the first tier of the famous ornamental staircase, turning around gives you an incredibly beautiful, elevated viewpoint looking back out over the serene jungle canopy and surrounding ancient stupas.
