Best tea estate stays in Haputale hillcountry
7 Answers from travellers
Yes! Look into places like the Thotulagalla Estate or Kelburne Mountain View. These are old British planter bungalows converted into boutique stays. You are literally surrounded by working tea fields. You can wake up, walk the established dirt paths through the estate, and watch the tea pluckers working in the early morning mist. It is the ultimate hill country experience.
I stayed at a place near Dambatenne. Waking up to the smell of fresh tea processing is incredible.
The views from Kelburne looking down to the south coast are mind-blowing on a clear day.
Make sure they have a fireplace. It gets down to 12 degrees Celsius up there at night.
Yes, the estate bungalows almost always have a dedicated tuk-tuk driver for guests.
